Dr. Abdulaziz Saleh bin Habtoor, Prime Minister, inaugurated the Fourth International Conference on Smart Technologies and Applications 2024, organized by New Generation University over a two-day period.

Dr. bin Habtoor praised New Generation University for its dedication to organizing conferences, through which it has established a strong academic presence by disseminating knowledge to students via a series of scientific research. He emphasized the importance of research in the development process, which is driven by bright and diligent minds.

He expressed his gratitude to the University President, Dr. Hamdan Al-Shami, his deputies, the deans, faculty members, conference participants, and all those who have contributed and continue to contribute to the success of the event.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Transport in the Caretaker Government, Abdulwahab Al-Durra, and the Minister of State, Dr. Hamid Al-Mazjaji. The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Hussain Hazeb, commended New Generation University for hosting this conference and for its efforts in implementing development and improvement across various academic, organizational, and educational service aspects, including the provision of necessary infrastructure.

He affirmed that scientific research is one of the key gateways to knowledge and the primary driver of the advancement and progress of societies, achieving development and sustainable growth. He also noted that the Ministry of Higher Education has placed significant emphasis on scientific research, making it one of its top priorities.

At the conference, which was attended by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Ali Sharfuddin, the Conference Chair, Dr. Radwan Shaddad, stated that a total of 212 scientific papers from 30 countries around the world were submitted for the conference, reviewed and evaluated by 323 specialists, and 84 papers were accepted.

Dr. Hatem Al-Da’ees, Vice President of New Generation University, delivered a speech on behalf of the University President, noting that the conference, now in its fourth year, has become a significant event both locally and internationally, with researchers from various countries presenting their pioneering ideas and research in using smart technologies to address upcoming challenges.

Dr. Murad Rasam, representative of the Yemen Research Foundation, pointed out that the conference, organized by the foundation in partnership with New Generation University and under the supervision of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), aims to promote a culture of scientific research within the community and raise awareness of its importance. He highlighted that the conference provides an opportunity to enhance cooperation between academic, research, and industrial institutions, both within Yemen and with international research institutions, contributing to the development of innovative research projects that meet the needs of society.

Miss. Sarah Al-Shqaqi, representative of the IEEE Yemen Chapter, presented the role of the institute in advancing innovation and technological developments.

The conference, which runs for two days, will discuss 84 papers in four parallel sessions, with local, regional, and international participation through virtual presentations. Topics include “Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Internet of Things, Image Processing and Computer Vision, Cybersecurity, Smart Communication Systems, Biomedical Information Systems, Business Data Technology, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Smart Industrial Systems, and Smart Energy Systems based on Renewable Energy.”

Additionally, the Prime Minister, along with the Minister of Higher Education, inaugurated the Mechatronics Lab at New Generation University and received a briefing from the University President on the latest updates and developments at the university.
